TUESDAY REVIEWS-DAY – BOOK REVIEW – JANE BY THE BOOK by PEPPER BASHAM

THE BLURB:

She’s level-headed and ordered. He talks to imaginary characters. She keeps to the plan. He never has one. Will true love find a way to color outside the lines but inside God’s love to create a story they can write together? Four years ago, Jane Warwick escaped the shame of being jilted at the altar by becoming a housekeeper at the secluded Inn at Simeon Ridge. Predictable and quiet, the inn and large Simeon family help Jane find a place to heal but also cultivate her natural strengths for order and planning. But an unexpected visit to Bath, England, upsets Jane’s peaceful monotony and sends her out of her comfort zone, directly into the harrowing path of historical detective author, Titus Stewart. The only plans Titus sticks to are family holidays and the ones that send him careening into his story worlds, but when an uptight innkeeper stumbles into his life – and his latest novel – nonfiction begins to take on a much more interesting gleam. With the help of a mysterious journal, will they both uncover a romance that stands the test of time?

MY REVIEW:

What fun for an author to read an author writing about an author!!!

Double the fun when that fictional author collides with a most staid and regimented—and unimaginative—love interest. Add in some Christmas spice of two hearts broken several times over, and romance has a wintry chance of kindling.

Jane Warwick is in Bath, England for one purpose only, and she intends to get the job done and make her hasty retreat back to North Carolina.

Titus Stewart is in Bath to get a job done, too—to find inspiration for his newest novel. And that job takes on new life when he tangles with Jane.

I played cheerleader to Jane’s reticence, urging her to step out of the carefully drawn boundaries she had created. I giggled as Titus kept to his pursuit—and sighed as his fictional world collided with his real life.

As he thawed Jane’s reserves, and they began to work together to solve the mystery in the pages of her journal, I felt the heat kindle between them. But just when it seemed the flame would leap to life, it came to an icy halt, and my heart melted.

As per her magical ability to turn a story, Ms. Basham brought together two distinct and polar opposite characters, shoved them into close quarters and an “oil and water” situation, threw in some freckles and Pink Lady apples, and put it all together in a Basham Classic happy ending.

I purchased this book on Amazon. I offer my review of my own free will, and the opinions expressed in my review are my own honest thoughts and reaction to this book.

WREADING WEDNESDAY – FEATURED BOOK – JANE BY THE BOOK by PEPPER BASHAM

THE BLURB:

Four years ago, Jane Warwick escaped the shame and heartbreak of being jilted at the altar by becoming a housekeeper at the secluded Inn at Simeon Ridge. Predictable and quiet, the inn helps Jane find a place to heal and celebrates her strengths, where she is promoted to head housekeeper. But an unexpected visit to Bath, England, upsets Jane’s plans and sends her out of her comfort zone, directly into the harrowing path of historical detective author, Titus Stewart.

The only plans Titus sticks to are family holidays and the ones that send him careening into his story worlds, but when an uptight and nervous innkeeper stumbles into his life – and his latest novel – nonfiction begins to take on a much more interesting gleam.

As the unlikely pair delve into the mystery behind a one-hundred-and-fifty-year-old letter, will they both uncover a romance that stands the test of time?
