TUESDAY REVIEWS-DAY – TRIPLE BOOK REVIEW – TROUBLE BLOWS WEST by MONIQUE BUCHEGER
THE BLURB
Ginnie doesn’t always think…
…sometime she just acts.
Was it a mistake to stand up to the bully?
Gennie and the bully, Pierce, get sent to the principal’s office. It doesn’t matter if he had threatened her twin brother, Toran, they both are suspended. Two days off school isn’t the scary part.
What will her dad say?
Things get taken up a notch, next. When the West twins and Chandler brothers execute a prank to get back at Pierce, it doesn’t turn out like they’d planned.
What Ginnie sees is terrifying.
Pierce is being beaten by his father.
Bullying is wrong, but now Ginnie has to come to grips with understanding what he might be going through.
How will she handle it?
THE AUTHOR
When Monique isn’t writing, you can find her playing taxi driver to one or more of her 12 children, plotting her next novel, scrapbooking, or being the “Mamarazzi” at any number of child-oriented events.
Even though she realizes there will never be enough hours in any given day, Monique tries very hard to enjoy the journey that is her life. She shares it with a terrific husband, her dozen children and 3 in-law kids, eleven granddarlings, 5 cats, and many real and imaginary friends.
She is the author of five published books (and several unpublished ones) and is in two anthologies. You can find more about Monique and her works at: www.moniquebucheger.blogspot.com
MY REVIEW
Ginnie West is head strong and impulsive but her heart is in the right place. Honestly, I didn’t like her very much in this one—she was so stubborn and strong-willed, and her anger was making me angry! And keeping secrets from her dad on top of it! OY!!
At twelve years old, Ginnie is in the precarious age where everything is changing and nothing makes sense. Always adventurous, she doesn’t back down from a challenge.
But when that challenge turns dangerous that same impulsiveness leads to a resolution, and opens the way for a happy ending.
Once again, Ms. Bucheger has pegged her characters to a TEE! Even with Ginnie’s over-the-top attitude, she’s authentic and believable. (And I still love her!) The jargon and slang they all bandy about is delightful (except for Ginnie’s rants!!) and fun—I’m going to have to incorporate nutburgers into my vocabulary!
I love a good prank but my heart was racing when Ginnie a) convinced the others to go along with [SPOILER], and b) when she saw Pierce getting beaten. I especially loved the West Family rallying to reach out to him, and welcome him and his mom to their home.
Another winner from Ms. Bucheger!
ROBIN’S FEATHERS
ALL | THE | FEATHERS!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but was under no obligation to read the book or to post a review. I offer my review of my own free will. The opinions expressed in my review are my honest thoughts and reaction to this book.
Thanks for hosting Trouble Blows West on your blog. I’m glad you still love Ginnie even though she rattled your nerves a little. (I’m sure her dad can sympathize) 🙂 Sometimes a person’s weakness can also be their strength. Her impulsive, fearless attitude gets her in trouble–but also gives her the courage to do hard things. Pierce comes back in book 4: Being West is Best. I’m looking forward to your thoughts. 🙂 Take care. I appreciate you.
