FRONT PORCH FELLOWSHIP – EASTER SUNDAY – TO BECOME LIKE HIM
As Christians, we seem to compartmentalize this this thing we call faith. In December we revel in Christ’s birth, God becoming man. At Easter, we mourn His sacrifice, and rejoice He resurrection. And somewhere in between, we await His triumphant return.
My mind, though, as it is wont to do, picks it all apart like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle right out of the box. And as my mind is also wont to do—rather, as Holy Spirit takes my musings—I go back to the beginning. Genesis.
Which begs the question, “why?”
Why did Father God bother with creation at all? What was His purpose and motive? His intention?
One word.

Which begs the question, was God lonely? I don’t believe so, no, not at all. this just in… I believe that because He is love, and has so much love to give, He simply made more creatures to love, to pour His love into.
And, as nothing takes Him by surprise, He also knew His creation would let Him down, turn away from Him… betray Him. Even before creation, He knew all this would happen—but He did it anyway. Created us. And He had a plan to fix it.

Because He knew going in what would happen. Already one of His angels had turned away. And Father God knew that Lucifer would try to rob His creation from fellowship with Him. It looked quite successful, too, for a few millennia. But God is outside of time, and in the grand scope of things, it really wasn’t but a blink of His eye.
I almost pity Satan at that moment, thinking he had finally done it. Finally won, thinking he had defeated Christ. Thinking he had put our Savior to death—he didn’t of course. Christ offered Himself as the sacrifice to unite us with Father, once and for all time. Poor Satan was just the minion in Father’s hand to manifest it… to manifest His Glory.

See, I picture the Holy Trinity sitting up in heaven, on their bean bag chairs made of clouds, watching us down here, coaching us, laughing with us—or at us—weeping with us. Holy Spirit speaks to us, in us, through us.
It’s relationship, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

God is. Timeless… “who was, and is, and is to come…” He is outside of time, He is eternal.

It’s all for us. Everything Father does, or thinks, or says, His very breath even—Holy Spirit—His heartbeat is for us. For fellowship.

And because He is, we are.
