Please give a big welcome to my Pastor, MATTHEW HESTER.
rem: Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
MATTHEW: I grew up in Travelers Rest [SC.] I have lived in Greer since I was 10.
I have lived my entire life in the Greenville area of SC.
rem: A true native!! Tell us three things about yourself.
MATTHEW: I love singing. I am a huge movie buff. I love reading or writing a great book.
rem: Singing is good, and I gotta say, I love reading and writing great books too! hee hee Which book have you read the most in your lifetime?
MATTHEW: The Bible. Not in a boring devotional sense, but in a deep, mind altering, study sense.
rem: It’s only boring if we read without intention or understanding, right? What is your most treasured possession?
MATTHEW: Object: wristwatch from Kelley Varner / Relational: Family
rem: What is your greatest fear?
MATTHEW: Living out of purpose.
rem: I agree, once we know our purpose, there is no greater loss than not living smack in the middle of it! What is your greatest regret?
MATTHEW: Not having better financial stewardship as a young adult.
rem: That’s probably true for many people. What is your favourite quotation and why?
MATTHEW: There are so many. One that stand out right now… “What good is revelation if you can’t walk it out in shoe leather?” Kelley Varner. I always think about this when it comes to any knowledge I acquire. Will I use it? Will I simply collect it?
rem: Reminds me of an analogy a pastor friend of mine used to make: If someone deposited $1000, or $1,000,000 even, in my bank account but I never make use of it! Why would anyone do that? What do you most value in a friend?
rem: I agree. What quality do you most admire in a man or woman?
rem: What do you do as a hobby?
MATTHEW: Watch movies. I love whitewater rafting as well.
rem: Movies I knew, whitewater rafting not so much. Dogs or Cats? Which do you prefer?
MATTHEW: Dogs. Cats get NO love from me.
rem: I guess I can forgive you! LOL [total cat lover that I am] Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
MATTHEW: I’m not a huge fan of fiction, but I always loved Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings books.
rem: If ya gotta choose a work of fiction, Lord of the Rings is a great choice. If you could choose to be a character in a book, who would it be and why?
MATTHEW: Edmund…from the Chronicles of Narnia. I can relate to him because of the mistakes he made that were attached to fear and doubt. He also matures and ultimately embraces his identity.
rem: I think we can all identify with Edmund on that. Where do you get your greatest ideas for writing?
MATTHEW: I write about what impacts me spiritually. I am also motivated by what I see as a need for my writing to address.
rem: Sound like part of your purpose then. Do you have a favorite book or work that you’ve written? If so, why?
MATTHEW: Guaranteed Victory. I love writing about righteous identity. That’s what this book is all about. I think it is also important to have the backdrop of the story of Gideon for all of us to identify with our shortcomings.
rem: I can vouch for this book, ya’ll. I heard the message it was based on, and wow! Just WOW! Really made me think. Who are your favorite authors to read?
MATTHEW: Kelley Varner. Jonathan Welton. Tullian Tchividjian. Danny Silk.
rem: All names I’m familiar with. Tell us a little about your latest book? What is your current project?
MATTHEW: The working title is: Superabundance-God’s Answer To Wealth.
rem: I like the title, can’t wait to read it. What is one take-away from your book(s) that you hope readers identify with?
MATTHEW: Wealth is bigger and greater than any of us understand. The bulk of wealth we possess in God has nothing to financial blessing. If we can understand just how wealthy we are, we will never be the same.
rem: I’m beginning to grasp this myself, thanks to you and others – wealth is a mindset. Most of my interviewees are authors who may or may not work another job. You, however, are an author secondary to your primary calling. Talk a little bit about your role as a Pastor and Apostle, and how that ties in with writing.
MATTHEW: My calling is what ultimately gave birth to my desire to write. I have ministered to so many people throughout the years, and writing to the church seemed to be the next logical step. I write to equip others. It is my hope that each book I write can be used as a tool for transformation to whoever is reading it.
rem: Even as a writer of fiction, that is my hope for my writing, albeit in a different way perhaps. What can you tell us of the history of Dominion Church International? What about Dominion College?
MATTHEW: Dominion Church International began July 4, 1985. We have always had a heart to pioneer truth. In other words, we are not afraid to seek God off of the beaten path. We have always been radical in our truth, praise and worship, and multi-culture approach to ministering the gospel of the Kingdom of God.
The College was birthed in 1992 out of the desire to further equip the saints with the truth of the Kingdom. We have also pioneered in this area. We have been forced to develop original curriculum in order to offer teaching and writings that are not mainstream.
rem: I know I’ve never attended anywhere like Dominion, so alive, so in tune with Holy Spirit, so eager to make sure others know Father, and His will.
Matthew, thank you so much for being a guest on my blog today. I enjoyed getting to know a little more about you.
